I have a prediction, a very simple and logical one. IAM____.com is the next big thing to hit the web. With the saturation of myspace and myface, myplace, mycase and what have you, almost everything beginning with my in the domain is taken.
This is a good thing, though, because with the increasing popularity of blogging and the want that people posess to create a digital identity, iam.com is the future.
Currently there is a large number of available domains that begin with iam. These will soon be bought up by people who want to create an identity through their domain name, such as iamaprogrammer.com, or iamafriend.com, the possibilities are huge. What I predict is that this will be the next frontier for domain buy-ups. People will use these names as a branding mechanism to represent who they are online.
This also leads me to an idea and creation I call Domain Tagging. It is simply the tagging of content available at a site by a specific domain name. The concept of representing the content on a site by its name is nothing new, but the way that it can now be leveraged with the availability of currently unused domain names and syndication services is. Imagine a blogger being able to register and aggregate a post on many different sites that are in some way specific to the post. For example, I have a post about tips on writing a book, so I tag this as Writing and Tips. Then these get aggregated on two sites that are iamauthor.com and itistip.com. Similarly, a person who has a post that is a tip on skydiving could tag it and have it posted at itistip.com and iamskydiver.com. Hopefully this makes sense and is not too far fetched. Now whenever I want to read about tips I simply go to itistip.com and read through the collection. If the domains were done in a consistent and expansive manner then this could be a successful method of tagging. You would not have to find a tag in a tag cloud you could simply type a domain into your address bar, which would be faster.
