If you are interested in mulling your own wine this season I have a few tips:
- Use a not too expensive wine as you will be altering the taste anyway. I recommend using something in the $8-$10 range.
- Use a medium bodied red wine, a merlot is a good choice
- Do not let the wine come to a boil, this can ruin the flavor completely
- Add fruit, such as a lemon and orange wedges toward the end of the mulling process to take off some of the bite from the mulled wine
- Place a cinnamon stick in the wine as well as in each persons cup to add a little extra holiday spice
Hopefully these tips will will be helpful this season when you decide to mull some wine! Here is a picture of what remained of my mulled wine by the end of the dinner party we had in our building.
